Combinations in Jaimini Astrology to Know the Profession of a Person

Jaimini astrology cannot be referred as a different system of Astrology.Maharishi Jaimini just provided certain rules.These rules may prove usedul while analyzing a birth chart as per Parasara System of Astrology.These rules are called Jaimini Sutras.

He introduced Karakamsha,which is  the navamsa sign occupied by the Atmakaraka Planet and he also introduced Bhava Arudhas. According to Jaimini the planet with highest longitude becomes the Atmakaraka and other planets following the Atmakaraka,In decreasing order of longitudes are,Amatya,Bhrathru,Matru,Putra,Gnati and Dara Karaka respectively.

Even,though he didn’t provide any methods to calculate the profession,he gives Karakamsha Supreme Importance and also provided some of the combinations of planets to predict the vocation of a person.They are as follows :

1.If Sun occupies the Karakamsha lagna, the native will be fond of public work, and will take interest in political activities.
2.If Sun and Venus aspect Karakamsha, the native will be employed by Royal people or Top Class politicians.
3.Sun occupying 10th house in Karakamsha chart and aspected by Jupiter, the native will be a successful Trader of Cattle.
4.If Sun occupies 5th house in Karakamsha chart the native will become a Philosopher or a Musician.
5.If Sun is in conjunction with Rahu and occupies Karakamsha, and Sun being located in benefic vargas, the native will become a Doctor treating poisonous afflictions.
6.If full moon and Venus joins Atmakaraka in Navmansha money will be earned by education.
7.If Moon is conjunct with Jupiter in Karakamsha or in 5th from Karakamsha, the native becomes a author and earns his livelihood by writing books.
8.If Moon is alone in Karakamsha or in 5th from Karakamsha, the native become a musician.
9.Moon in Karakamsha aspected by Venus makes the native an Alchemist.
10.Instead of Venus if aspected by mercury he will be a Doctor.
11.If mars occupies the Karkamsha the native earns his livelihood by metallurgy.
12.If mars occupies the Karakamsha with benefic aspects, the native will be a Judge.
13.If mars occupies 5th place from Karakamsha under the aspect of Saturn, the native will become a Mechanic.
14.If mercury occupies the karakamsha the native becomes Merchant and well versed in social and political matters.
15.If mercury occupies 5th place from Karakamsha, the native will become a Vedic Scholar.
16.When Jupiter occupies the karakamsha the native becomes a philosopher, religious head and will have good knowledge of Vedanta.
17.If Jupiter occupies 5th place from karakamsha, he will be a scholar in Vedas and Upanishads.
18.If Venus joins Atmakaraka in Navmansha, the native will become a big politician.
19.If Venus joins karakamsha or the 5th from karakamsha, the native will become a great poet.
20.If Saturn occupies the Karakamsha the native will adopt the profession of his forefathers or will be famous in his line of profession.
21.If Saturn alone occupies 4th or 5th place from karakamsha, the native will be skillful in archery and will adopt the same skill for livelihood.
22.Saturn,occupying  karakamsha under the aspect of mars the native will become a builder.
23.If Rahu joins atmakaraka in navmansha, the native earns his bread as a thief or decoit.
24.Rahu having close association with Mandi and occupying 4th place from karakamsha the native will be specialised to treat snake bites and poisonous problems.
25.Rahu in 5th from Karakamsha makes the native to be a good mechanic.
26.If ketu occupies 4th place from karakamsha the native will become a clock maker Repairer.
27.Ketu occupying karakamsha makes the native a mathematician, if occupied in 5th house from karakamsha under benefic aspects the results will be same.
28.Ketu occupying karakamsha under malefic aspects makes the native a thief.
29.Ketu occupying 5th place from karakamsha under the aspect of Jupiter makes the native an astrologer.

Retrogression of Planets

What is meant by Retrogression of Planets ?

Retrogression of planets can be defined as the backward movement of planets.So,Are they really moving backwards? Certainly Not! Retrogression is merely an illusion,this can be explained with the help of an example.Consider two vehicles moving with a constant speed,at some point the first vehicle increases its speed so naturally the passengers in the first vehicle observes that the second vehicle is moving backwards even though the second vehicle had never changed its speed.The same results can also be observed if the second vehicle decreases its speed at one point.This is the concept of Retrogression of Planets.

In Astrology,Retrogression of Planets plays an important role while predicting the results.There are different opinions between astrologers regarding the effects of retrograde planets and it is still a matter of debate.In an ancient astrological treatise called Uttarakalamritha,the author Kalidasa states the following points worth mentioning :

(I) A debilitated planet if retrograde acts as an Exalted Planet.

(II) An exalted planet if retrograde acts as a Debilitated Planet.

So,it is clear that we cannot ignore retrogression of planet in any given birth chart.Not only that,In vedic astrology retrograde planets acquire a special strength known as Cheshta Bala which is also taken into account while calculating Shadbala of planets.

Retrogression of Planets in Nadi Astrology

In Nadi Astrology,Retrogression of planets is given great importance.A rule in Nadi Astrology is that,A Retrograde planet always aspect the rear sign by half aspect.Retrograde planets are often mentioned as 'Looking Back' or 'Running Back',this is because,In Nadi astrology results are explained in a philosophical way without the reference of ascendant or any other divisional charts.To explain it with an example,we may consider the following chart.



In the above given chart,Jupiter and Saturn is Retrograde,in addition to that Jupiter is debilitated.To explain the situation we may consider the following points :

(1) Jupiter placed in Capricorn(Ishwaramsa) is running back towards his own sign Sagittarius because Ketu who is always running retrograde,which signifies the end of everything is approaching Jupiter from Aquarius.Moreover,Jupiter's friend moon is also situated in Sagittarius.

(2)Saturn placed in Pisces which is his friend's house is running back to his own house Aquarius were his friend Ketu also is situated in the same sign.This combination is known as Moksha Karma Yoga in Nadi Astrology,which relates to end of Karma and attaining Moksha.

(3)In this situation only Saturn(Karma) can help his friend Jupiter(Jeeva) because Ketu is in the sign of Saturn.Moreover,There is an Parivartana Yoga between Saturn and Jupiter which is also known as Guru Karma Yoga.

So,from the above the chart we can conclude that the native of this birth chart will struggle a lot in his early life but when during transits Saturn enters Capricorn and Jupiter enters Pisces,the Parivartana is completed and after that he will see a good life ahead.

Likewise one should also consider the natural functioning and condition of planets,the planets situated in the succeeding and preceding sign and for special yogas like parivartana yoga while analyzing Retrograde planets.

Not only for retrograde planets,Planets in 2nd and 12th are always given importance while considering any planet,because they are the nearest neighbours.Sometimes they may be thick friends and sometimes born enemies.All these should be remembered while analyzing any birth chart.

Basics of Nadi Astrology

Nadi Astrology is quite different from other systems of Astrology in many ways.In Nadi Astrology,Ascendant is not at all Important.Karakatwa of planets is given more importance unlike the house concepts in other systems of Astrology.For example,If we want consider about a person's father we should study the placement and condition of Sun whereas in Vedic Astrology,normally 9th house is considered to study the prospects of father.Likewise,each planets are given certain karakatwas,which should be deeply studied to understand the basic idea underlying in them.I will now list some of the basic karakatwas of Planets in a Male Chart.

Sun - Atma/Father/Government

Moon - Mother

Venus - Wife

Mars - Brother

Mercury - Education

Jupiter - Jeeva/Self

Saturn - Karma/Profession/Son

Rahu - Paternal Grandfather

Ketu - Maternal Grandfather

If we have to analyze a Female Birthchart, there are some exceptions :

Venus - Jeeva/Self

Mars - Husband

These are just primary significations of each planets,We will be studying about the other Significations of Each Planets with suitable examples in an other post.

Now,Aspects in Nadi Astrology is quite different.In Nadi Astrology,If we have to analyze a planet,we should consider planets in 1,5,9 from the planet in question and give results by taking into account that those planets were in conjunction.And we should also consider planets in 3,7,11 from the planet in question and consider them as in opposition.

This concept of aspects in Nadi astrology is not a new rule.The basic idea behind this concept is also mentioned in Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra in which Parasara states that the 12 zodiac signs is divided into 4 equal parts on the basis of their directions as listed below :

East - Aries,Leo,Sagittarius

West - Gemini,Libra,Aquarius

North - Cancer,Scorpio,Pisces

South - Taurus,Virgo,Capricorn

Planets in trines gives the same results as if they are in Conjuction.So from the list given above,For instance if we consider the sign Aries,we can say that Planets in Aries,Leo,Sagittarius(1,5,9) is in one direction i.e East direction.Similarly Planets in Gemini,Libra,Aquarius(3,7,11) is in west which is in opposite direction to East.
